Who Is In Control of Your Life?
This month, as being part of the Weston County Health Coalition; another health professional and myself are educating the public on “making healthy choices”. However, it was my desire that through this education and article, I would be able to discuss the real meat of what making healthy choices is all about.
Let me guess, you would suppose that due to my past articles, I am going to tell you how to eat healthier and exercise more...not in this article. Making healthy choices goes much deeper than a certain behavior such as what we eat or drink. I believe that making healthy choices depends upon what we believe to be true concerning ourselves, others and life. How responsible are you for your life? Making healthy choices depends on your core values of what you believe about you: who do you say you are and what do you say you are worth? What is your vision for your life? Where do you see yourself in 50 years and why?
Healthy choices are also dependent upon how you view others in life; whether they are people close to you or not. How much influence do the people around you have in your life? Are you, or others the captain of your ship?
Just as essential, making healthy choices depends upon your view of life. Do you believe this life is not fair and you have no control over it? Or do you see life as supportive of what is good and true and that good always wins in the end?
How you answered the above questions determines what you view are the controlling factors in your life. Are you in control of every decision you make, or is something or someone else? Many times we give our power and life away to people and/or situations without even realizing it. To be a truly healthy person, we have to be honest with ourselves and admit that even though we cannot control our circumstances, we do control our choices. Each choice we make in life is actually a crossroad: one that will either confirm or compromise you and your life.
I challenge you this month to take some time to think about what matters to you the most. Have you been making choices that are allowing you to live up to your highest potential, or have you been settling for less than the best from yourself? Do you want more out of your life? If you do, stop settling for mediocrity and reach for what you truly want and see There are no limitations in life, only limited perceptions. Open your eyes and raise your vision to the true you and don’t let anything stop you.
